Packaging tests
Title and thumbnail testing should start before you remake the video.
When a video underperforms, the fastest test is usually not a new edit. It is a clearer title and thumbnail pair.
Start with one viewer question
Ask what the target viewer wants to know, avoid, fix, or compare. The thumbnail should make that question visible. The title should make it specific.
Do not make both assets do the same job
The thumbnail is for instant recognition and emotional pull. The title is for precision. If both say the same thing, the package feels smaller than it should.
Create different hypotheses
A useful test is not blue versus green. It is problem versus result, curiosity versus clarity, or human face versus object close-up.
A simple test plan
- Write the current promise in one sentence.
- Create three thumbnail concepts with different hooks.
- Pair each with a title that adds detail.
- Compare readability at phone size.
- Track CTR, views from browse/search, and audience fit.
